    Google: zorin linux

    In the first two sentences:

Zorin OS is a multi-functional operating system designed specifically for Linux beginners who want to have easy and smooth access to open source software. It is based on Ubuntu which is the most popular Linux operating system in the world.

Thanks I'm new to Linux, and Zorin is GREAT as far as I know, so far I am able to access the Internet with Goggle Chrome faster than I can with windows, my mail is set up easy enough, all i had to do was manually enter the pop and smtp addresses, I haven't tried find other computers on my network yet or playing and games but so far from what I've seen I really want to learn this O/S and totally erase windows from all 4 computers in my house. Basically I'm sick and tired of Windows vista and the problems I have with it locking up and 7 is nothing more than vista with a paint job, and from what I hear win 8 ain't all that either.

Get to know it before you ditch Windows.
While Linux distros are great they have some shortcomings that are of no fault of Linux.
Most of the mainstream games are made for Windows.
In Linux there is a way to run some of these games with varying degrees of success.
Most popular is a program called Wine which is used to run Windows games and software.
And depending on the game, you could spend a good chunk of time getting that special game set up and running.

As for file access across a network involving Windows pc's you will need to use Samba.
That is something you can easily research on your own once you get used to Linux.
If hard core gaming isn't a big thing for you, you will find that Linux offers freedom and a true sense of user control that can never be experienced using Windows.

I've been Windows free for over 3 years now and I have been loving every minute of it.
Good luck and enjoy your new found freedom!

Thanks I'm not real hard core gaming, I do play Vega Strike and Freespace every now and them, my son gave me a copy of Ghost recon Advanced war fighter, and I downloaded Aces high just to fly around in, but thats about all I have on the windows hdd's
Freespace is my favorite game of all, the AI in that game is about teh best STILL to date that I have seem. But other than that I web surf look at pictures and video and check my city email acct from home, if I can't access my city email through Linux, thats no biggie, they' will just have to get over it
And as far as games if Linux games are all I can play I think I could get used to Flight Gear for a flight sim.

Welcome to linux and the forums. If you want to research other linux operating systems go to DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD. . A good source of linux specific search results is <Linux> - Google Search . Enjoy and have fun.

Thanks man, I'm on windows right at this moment, haven't had time to play with the Linux today, but I DID learn a little more about it last night
What I want to do for now is empty some of the windows junk I have off the hard drive and install Zorin on this hard drive and duel boot them I might try that tomorrow or Friday, I would have done it tonight, but I just got my Samsung Moment from Ebay today and I'm setting it up to work

And thanks for the links I have a folder in my bookmarks in Firefox that is labeled Linux, I keep all my real os links there
This is SO much better than windows I can almost learn it all in a week or so.
