I am trying to play some video from a usb drive but none of my players want to do anything these include movie player gnome movie player and vlc media player.
Vlc and gnome player just dont play movie player gives me a GstDecodeBin2: This appears to be a text file.
Any ideas

Possibly related to this bug. If that is it, a fix was released. Which version of Ubuntu are you running?
Otherwise, do you have the necessary codecs installed to play your file? You can get support for most the common restricted media formats by doing
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormatsCode:sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

I am using 10.04 lts, already have the restricted codecs via medibuntu I will have a look at the bug fix.

Removed movie player and reinstalled it still the same problem checked my restricted media via sudo all up to date..
