internal speaker is not working in hp compaq dc 7900
I have installed Ubuntu 10.10. everything is ok except with internal speaker in my HP Compaq dc7900 Convertible Minitower PC. audio is coming through headset but not through internal speaker. what might have gone wrong with my system. but it is working with windows 7 ultimate. i'm using dual boot.
i have installed the same ubuntu 10.10 64 bit in my laptop DELL Inspiron N4010, with this everything is fine. but i have problem with hp desktop internal speaker. what should i do?
I have observed one thing that in SYSTEM > SOUND > OUTPUT Connector has only two options 1. Analog Headphones 2. Analog output.
but in my DELL Inspiron N4010 one more option is there "Analog Speakers".
I think problem is this one only. please solve my problem soon
thanks in advance
JAN..

You probably need a driver/module for the sound card, post the output of this command and hopefully someone can point you in the right direction.
Code:sudo lspci -knn

once again thanks MIKE for your response. I have checked everything and i have put full volume in "OUTPUT VOLUME" and in "ALERT VOLUME" without right mark in MUTE check box. sound is coming through headset in fine manner, but not with internal speaker. I think one option is missing in SOUND PREFERENCE > OUTPUT>CONNECTOR. in this "ANALOG SPEAKER" option is not there whereas it is there in my laptop. Is it giving problem or something else? I don't know what to do! please help me. I don't want to go out from UBUNTU. thanks once again to you . I hope your reply.

Just Now I have tried PClinuxOS live cd. with that audio was coming fine with even external speaker also and I noticed that there is no option "ANALOG SPEAKER" in SOUND PREFERENCE > OUTPUT>CONNECTOR. but it was working fine. then what could be the problem?

try to install GNOME ALSA MIXER. and then uncheck mono. then increase volume with the control for mono. surely you will get sound. I don't know wether it's correct solution or not but you can listen sound surely.
