Some more details about your system and what plugins or add-ons you have installed for Firefox. What version of Firefox?
Also does it run slow with all pages or just certain ones? One page open or multiple tabs?
Do you have Adobe Flash installed or are you using an open source alternative?

There was a recent thread on this forum about Firefox having speed issues.
It turned out that the gnash plugin was the culprit. OP uninstalled gnash and Firefox worked fine.

Linux usually doesn't need a reboot like other OS's.
The only time I reboot my system is after I do a kernel update.

To clean out cookies in Firefox go to Edit- Preferences then the Privacy tab.
Select "Show Cookies" and from there you can delete them.
You can also clear out history from that page.

What make and model of computer are you using?
Next go to the Administrator button and click on System Monitor. Click on the system tab.
That will show you what version of Ubuntu you are using and how much Ram is installed and what processor you are using.

    Now open Firefox.
Go to Help and click About. That shows the version of Firefox.
Now click on the Tools button in Firefox and select Add-ons.
    Click on the Plugins tab.
That has all the plugins you are using.
If you are using Adobe flash it should say Shockwave Flash.
If you are using gnash flash plugin it should say gnash.

    Finally open a terminal window and type this command in it;
    lspci

That's a small el for the first letter and a small eye as the last letter.
Post the output of that here

To copy code in the terminal just highlight it with your mouse, right click and select copy then paste the output of lspci into your post.

    Plugins and specs look ok.
Up to date version of Firefox.

When you say major slow, what do you mean?
Can you provide specifics? Is it every page that gives you a problem or just certain ones?
Is it possibly a network issue? If you download updates or package installers through Synaptic do they download fast?
Are you using DSl or cable? Wired or wireless?

Try going to speedtest.net and check you network speeds.

I really only go on to web pages, this one and Android Forums. Downloads seem to go pretty fast and I normally teather from my Android but sometimes my Mobile Broadband. Sometimes trying to get this page I get a server problem. It didn't show but my MB is a 939Dual-Sata2.

Ok. So we finally established that you use your phone tethered to your pc for internet connection.

Go to System - Preferences and click on Network connections.
Choose the tab that best describes your network connection.
You should see your connection profile listed in one of the tabs.
    Highlight it and select edit.
Now go through the option tabs and make sure they are set up properly.
If you want to change your DNS sever to use Google's you can put in 8.8.8.8 for that.
Also under the IPv6 tab make sure it is disabled.

Sorry, but I do not have a phone that allows tethering a connection so I can't test this or go any further with that topic.

As I previously said, check you network speeds and possibly change your DNS to Google's and see if that helps. You said downloads seem fast but web pages are causing problems.
That suggests to me that the DNS you are using is slow or timing out or you possible have IPv6 enabled which will cause pages not to load.

    Speeds are good.
I'd check the network connections I mentioned.
You could also try another browser.
If that browser works ok then it's a Firefox setting problem. You could try a complete uninstall/reinstall.

If the new browser is also slow then it's a problem with the network settings on your pc or even with the phone.
