    how to boot the linux (any os) from terminal

    i am using( pc) assembled cpu with 40gb,in that bios(old bios-award phoenix d688) boot from pen drive option was not there
    i want boot through my pen drive
    i dont have cd rom also

    what i am thinking is --(is it possible)
    in my system i installed ubuntu 10.4 so,
    step 1)-i will open terminal ,
    step 2)-i will connect pendrive to system go to pendrive path (pen drve is ready to boot(i will make it bootable))
    through any commands can we boot pendrive in pc (using terminal)

    if you already have linux/grub installed, you can install using your hard disk

    there is no way to boot your machine using a USB stick if it isn't supported by BIOS

    this is the best i could find, but i've done it before, you will have to modify slightly for grub2 http://www.ubuntugeek.com/install-ub...rom-drive.html
