    a couple questions

    hi guys,

    ubuntu 10...

    1-why i dont have add/remove.. under applications menu?how i can add?
    2-when i watch a movie on youtube if its not active(currently not watchin) it stops it doesnt show movie anymore?
    3-how i can find out which version ubuntu i have?
    4-wats difference between tar.gz and rpm files?how i can install them?on terminal?

    5-where i can find linux ubuntu terminal commands(sudo .... etc)

    People who dont know hoe to use google should not be allowed to use Linux.

    johnhagen,

    1 . Add new apps either using Ubuntu Software Center (under Applications menu) or Synaptic Package Manager (under System, Administration).
    2. Don't quite understand the problem ... should work.
    3. If you want to know which Ubuntu version you are running just open a terminal and type the command lsb_release -a if you want to know which version of Linux kernel you are running in the same terminal type uname -a
    4. tar.gz are generally compressed source code files which you need to decompress and the compile .rpm files are binary install files for the Red Hat family of Linux e.g opensuse. If you want to download a file and with a double click get it to install then you will need a .deb file. These are for the debian / ubuntu family of Linux.
    5. Google it should get some good refs from Ubuntu

    thanks guy and GreenSkyChris i googled but i wanted answers for those particular questions.yes there are documents but so many pages also its not to read so many pages to find out answers for a couple questions.
