Post Wireless connection with a on/off switch

On my laptop I have a on/off switch for my wifi. While in windows I can tap it to turn it on or off, enabling or disabling my wifi. While booted Linux this button does not seem to work therfor leaving me incapable of connecting to the Internet while running Linux. Any suggestions or help. Please note that the wifi is automatically off while bootting the laptop but turns on at windows log on screen. Any help is appreciated.
