    Not able to boot with compiled kerne

    I compiled a kernel 2.6.37.1 and after compilation i am not able to boot with new kernel. i am getting following errors

    Gave up waiting for root device
    common problems
    -Root args
    check root delay
    check root
    missing modules(cat /proc/modules ls /dev)

    Alert : /dev/disk/by-uuid / 975f57c9-c735-47do-93bf-0779fce652b7 does not exist
    dropping by shell

    how to correct this

    Describe in detail how you configured, built, and installed the new kernel. Also, which version of Ubuntu are you running, and what was the old kernel. Finally, can you still select the old kernel and boot that from the grub boot screen?
