    Smile how to make linux home vnc server

    hi, uhm i want to know how to make my old computer into a linux server that i can keep at home, and when i go to college i can take my new computer.
    so right now i have a core 2 duo with 4 gig ram, 640 gig hd, 600 w psu, a 9800gtx, and its in a cooler master case.

    so how can i make it so its running a linux server all the time and could host things for me.

    i also want to set up vnc through ssh (i think thats what its called)

    so yeah,
    any help would be nice

    You can find lots of howto articles for setting up VNC servers under Linux with a quick google search using the following search terms: configure linux vnc server

    You might want to print out any articles that you are interested in so that you'll have the details in front of you. Hope it goes well and post back should you run into issues with it.

    You might also want to set up your home system as a VPN server so you can access it as a local resource from college. See OpenVPN for more details.

    There should be a direct installation option in your Synaptic package manager on Ubuntu. That way you won't need to build it yourself. The latest is 2.2, but my SL6 (RHEL6) system repositories show 2.1.4 which is the previous stable version. Either should work just fine.
