Unhappy GRUB loads on every boot???

    Hey guys,

I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on an external Seagate FreeAgent 320 gb hard drive. I have windows 7 installed on my internal 160 gb hard drive. But whenever I just want to boot in windows 7, I get the

    "GRUB Loading..."
    "error: No such disk"
    "grub rescue>"

screen. This only happens when my external hard drive isn't plugged in. How do i fix this? It hasn't always happened like this. I have a windows 7 install disk, but it never gives me the option to repair windows or go to command prompt. What do I do?!

GRUB has been installed in MBR of internal disk but its conf files are in External disk. You have to re-install Windows Boot Loader in Internal disk and GRUB in External disk.
Follow instructions from here to re-install Windows Boot Loader.
Is it possible for you to re-install Ubuntu in External disk becasue to fix GRUB, you have to edit a few conf files. Although you will learn a lot about GRUB in this process but it's a bit time consuming and you have to post contents of a few files here.
If you plan to re-install Ubuntu, just disable internal disk ( or unplug it ) in BIOS before starting installation. Installer will install GRUB in MBR of External disk only and both OSes will work fine.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

You might be able to do so in the BIOS setup. Disable or removing the hdd would just make it easier not to mess up again.

First read both links below on reinstalling grub, I think you are using GRUB 2 version 1.xx or above. After reading post back any questions.
