sony vaio vpcea3s1e disturbing hdd noise

    hello,

i have disturbing "zzzzzzzz" sound whenever i attempt to reach a file or folder, and it lasts for ten seconds after opening it. It is terribly disturbing and i haven't found any solution for it.

i have also windows 7 installed on my laptop. But i do not have any noise issue when using it.

i think it all started after shrinking volume to be able to install ubuntu. at first windows did not let me shrink volume bigger than 200 mb. After that, i used recuva disk software to consolidate free space. Finally i was able to shrink.

is it a faulty hard drive or a software issue?
how can i solve it ?

    thank you

Probably a software driver issue. Is the drive an IDE or Sata device?
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
