Corrupted profile.
Hi,
You have approx. two options to correct the problem. The first one would be to open up a console, and type: "fsck /dev/"your device name". If it is corrupted in the hard drive, it should correct it.
Your other option: If it is really gonzo from the hard drive, then you can't really recover it. You should then delete that user, and it's profile, and create it again. If the hard drive it okay, then you should not have any more problems. If it occurs again, then it's time to delve deeper to find the source of the problem.
Cheers!

By profiles, I assume you mean multiple user accounts? If so, each user has a directory on the server in /home, such as /home/user1, /home/user2, etc. All the settings and user data for an account will be there, some in hidden files/directories - names that start with a period, such as /home/user1/.mozilla for user1's firefox settings, passwords, etc. You need to do more analysis to determine what bits got munged. For example, if you are running KDE in the user1 account, the desktop settings will be in various places under /home/user1/.kde - and so forth.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!
