EDID Checksum Invalid Error Ubuntu 10.10

    Hello,
I am using Ubuntu 10.10, and everytime I boot, before I get to the login screen, I get this message... "EDID Checksum Error Invalid, Remainder is 22." What does this mean, nothing seems to be wrong, but I don't know. I get this error for pretty much every flavor of Ubuntu I have tried. I am just wondering if this is bad and will lead to something bigger, or is it nothing to worry about? Thanks
    David

the edid contains meta-data about capabilities (i.e. resolutions, refresh rates, ..) of your display (i.e. monitor, tv, ..).

the edid is somehow wrong. So it can be either one of the following problems:

1] the display reports a wrong edid
2] the computer parses the edid in wrong way

most probably 1] is the case. it can be caused by a half-broken cable or a firmware bug in your display. 2] is rather improbable.

see Extended display identification data - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and read-edid

So I take it that since it really is not hurting anything, I should not worry about it...
