I find the wl driver tends to perform better. You can install that with as directed here. Your experience may be different, however.

You can't have both drivers loading. I believe when you install the wl in Ubuntu, it blacklists the b43 automaticall, but if not you can do
    Code:
    echo "blacklist b43" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
On the page of the link you supplied for loading the wl driver..at what point in the page do you want me to start/finish..dont seem to see a wl driver...see B43 and STA

The module for the Broadcom STA driver is called wl.

You should just need to do this
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo modprobe -r b43 ssb wl
    sudo modprobe wl
And then blacklist the b43 driver as I mentioned above.

Note that the wl driver will generally name your wireless interface eth1 vs. the more usual wlan0. I think the default network manager won't be bothered by this, but if you use something like wicd for network management, you'll need to change the interface name in the preferences.

OK, Did the three line command in terminal and then did the blacklist you mentioned, now I suppose that i let it play for a while on wireless to see if it drops or is there more instructions...by the way, thanks for recognizing this thread and the additional help

Hopefully that will give you a stable connection. I'm out of ideas if not.

I had to step out 10 mins ago and came back to find out the wireless connection was gone...went into system preferences and the secure wireless connection was greyed out...shut the netbook down and rebooted...the wireless connection used to connect automatically but now get the red bar beside the wireless icon...weird

    Check the output of
    Code:
    dmesg
This will be very long so you may want to redirect it to a text file
    Code:
    dmesg >> dmesg.txt
    Look at
    Code:
    lsmod
Make sure the b43 driver is not loading.
    Check
    Code:
    iwconfig
See if the interface is there.
    Try
    Code:
    sudo ifconfig eth1 up
See if it gives any error messages.

And of course, do you have a physical wireless kill switch that might have accidently been flipped?

One thing I should mention before I start is by doing some reading, found out that Wicd was a better manager so installed that
