    I failed to upgrade my o/s , getting message The disc drive for / is not ready yet or not present
    continue to wait or press s to skip mounting or m for manual recovery.
    Ive tried to boot in revoery mode

    can you boot off an ubuntu install into a live cd environment?

    Yes.Boot using Live-CD and post the output of command
    fdisk -l
