Did you uninstall
gnome-terminal, or run (gexec)?
First do
If gnome terminal is uninstalledCode:sudo apt-get update
If run is uninstalledCode:sudo apt-get install gnome-terminal
Code:sudo apt-get install gexec

Thanks a lot for your solutions. Terminal still installed but I do not how to open without a launcher icon.
I am not so familiar with Ubuntu for all my life I was a Windows guy.

I don't run Ubuntu 11.04. So I am unfamilier with Unity Desktop. Best I can do is

(on desktop) alt-click --> select create new launcher
in the 'command' field enter:
drag launcher to top or bottom bar or unity panel if so desired.Code:/usr/bin/gnome-terminal
