Help with Wireless USB Adapter!
-I have a NETGEAR Wireless-N 300 USB Adapter that I use in Windows to connect to my internet
-You need to have a .exe program to configure this adapter with the system and there is a program called NETGEAR Smart Wizard which helps you configure to connect to your internet.
-In Linux I can't install it from the CD because it is an .exe file
So I was wondering if this would work?
-Install WINE on Linux
But then again I have problems because I can't connect to the internet through Linux and search up the WINE setup file. I did however go on windows, download a tar.gz file of WINE onto my usb and extracted the file in Linux. I went through the steps on how to install it but then something pops up where it checks some stuff and finally says
"no c compiler found in $PATH" and before that it said no to "c-compiler" etc.
Please help me :P Suggest any different ways how to do this or how to fix the c compiler thing. Thank You so much. I dont want to go back to windows. -.-

Plug in the adapter, then go to System>Administration>Additional Drivers.
You might find some available drivers in that list.
If so select one, and activate it. If not post back.

You can install wine through the software center, but you don't use Wine for linux driver purposes. NDIS is what you want. You are configuring NDIS driver via Additional Drivers.

These might help. Unfortunately, I am not yet allowed to post links, so you will have to be able to understand my code for the URLs. The items inside the quotes represent either a "." or a "/" depending on the word typed within the quotes.

The path I gave you to reach Additional Drivers is through the Gnome, I'm not sure where it is in KDE, I apologize, but this should help you find it.

See now I tried the links that were posted here. The thing that really is a problem is I have no internet connection as the only way I could connect to the internet is through the USB Adapter. I cannot download through Linux but what I can do is going on my Windows OS and put all the files I need on my USB. If this helps I have Kubuntu 10.04.2. I found ndiswrapper.ko in one of the directories in kubuntu through my root. Does that mean its already on there? If so how do I use it? If not I do have ndiswrapper.1.5.6.tar.gz file on my USB but I have no idea how to extract it and install it on my Linux. Secondly I do not know how to use it. My Linux does however recognize the NETGEAR USB connected and the light is on, on the actual usb. Give me any suggestions please?

Alright. So I finally installed ndiswrapper and it works. Not the USB though just ndiswrapper. Now I can't seem to find out the right driver for the "NETGEAR Wireless-N 300 USB adapter WNA3100".If any of you can tell me the name or tell me where to find it that would be great. I also included the text file to all my commands I did with the recent post where you told me to follow those steps. Here you are!

A command did not work, we need it too.
Code:ifconfig -a

What does that mean? I have downloaded ndiswrapper through .deb files. I have installed the drivers but my USB Adapter shows up disconnected in the System->Removable Devices but it shows up in lsusb. And a couple of hours ago it did show up as connected and was on as the blue light was on. I am so lost now I don't know what to do next. I have been following this:
help"dot"ubuntu"dot"com"slash"community"slash"Wifi Docs"slash"Driver"slash"Ndiswrapper
But I install everything but then when I go to network then I do not see any wireless settings.Last edited by Polofiesta; 06-05-2011 at 01:02 AM.
