It's generally recommended to not skip releases when doing an upgrade (10.10 in your case). Did you get a message that the installation had successfully completed? Were you using 10.04 successfully for some time? What does "reset the computer" mean? Post some info on your hardware, particularly graphics.

hi thanx for your reply. I didn't skip a release, i consecutively updated each release using the update manager and each installation went great, and worked fine. (used for about a day before i started the next update each time installed a version). By reset i mean as part of the installation process the machine is restarted after the new packages have been downloaded then installed. Everything was fine at this point, then as the machine shut down and started again, (saw option to go in to bios settings) the screen went completely blank. as i said i could hear the music as well as led indicator for the hard drive flashing. my graphics device is the standard device in the laptop intel mobile GMA 4500M. My system has a dual core intel pentium(r) 2.30GHz CPU and 3GB of RAM. hope thats enough info, if you need more say the word. i hope i can resolve this as i am almost fully converted to the linux way, just need to get over this hurdle, thanx in advance.
