Ubuntu 10.10 Recognizing wireless nic from dell xps1340

I am making my switch to Linux (long time coming) and I recently installed 10.10 as a dual boot with my dell xps running mainly windows vista. As I just had my dell repaired (go figure) Before the repair and on an earlier version of ubuntu I had no issues with the os recognizing my wireless nic however, now when I boot up I can't figure out how to get the nic installed, short of putting the driver on a usb and installing it that way? I'm running on a Dell Wireless 1510, laptop mini-card. Any help would be great.

Have you tried NDIS ? If not go to System > Administration > Additional Drivers. Run the check in there and see if it finds the drivers. If so, activate it. If not, post back.

I tried, but I have no network connections to find additional drivers. I found the driver for my nic card but have been unable to install it and I dont know which directory to install it to.

Most of those Dell wireless cards run Broadcom chip sets. Those drivers and firmware contain proprietary code, so the Ubuntu drivers are not installed by default. You may need to run a wired network connection in order download and install them. You can access the drivers from the System->Administration->Hardware Drivers entry. I'm not sure, but newer Ubuntu systems like 10.10 may have put the Hardware Drivers selection under System->Preferences instead.
