    Ubuntu Display Issues on Laptop

    Hello, I've been trying to install a copy of Ubuntu 11.04 onto my friend's HP Pavilion dv2500 laptop for him, and I seem to be getting some display errors with it. I believe there are some issues with the graphics drivers, and it gave me a notification about not being able to run the unity interface. Now, when running, the entire display appears "shuttered", as if through a set of shutter shades, and I've noticed these "shutters" get thinner and closer together as I decrease the screen resolution in the monitor preferences. I would really like to know how I can at least get this laptop up and running, and in smooth condition for my friend, and I would greatly appreciate your help.

    Hello

    I've not tried any of the Ubuntu releases that come with Unity so can't speak on that, but as for graphics issues, the alternate text installer always works for me, whereas the GUI installer does not, so you might try that if you haven't done so already.

    [Reply] Ubuntu Display Issues on Laptop

    System --> Preferences --> Monitor

    - Make sure the first monitor detected is ON and the second monitor detected is OFF
    - Make the first monitor detected the Default Monitor and then have the settings as follows:
    Resolution: 1280x800 (16:10)
    Refresh Rate: 60 Hz
    Rotation: Normal

    That should fix your screen problems. Let me know if you have any more issues
