Ubuntu problems on new ASUS K53E, back to windozs
I've using Ubuntu for about three years now on my old HP laptop with only minor issues. Two weeks ago, I bought a new ASUS K53E laptop, and have nothing but problems from the start.
I installed 11.04, which was fine. I needed to do some spreadsheet work. So I loaded up Libreoffice, and away I went. I worked fine for a while, and then the laptop would completely freeze up. Restart the laptop and try again. This happened over and over. I read a few posts online. I updated the Java, that didn't work. Other goodies don't work either. Fn keys don't work.
So, this leaves me disappointed. I reloaded 7, and I feel beaten. Maybe If I wait it out, there will be some updates to help me out.
Anyone have any great ideas for me?

I went back to Ubuntu 10.04 because of problems with 11.04, and have seen many posts about 11.04 not working right for folks. Rather than go back to windows, why not go back to 10.04 or 10.10 until 11.04 gets the bugs out? Alternatly, try going to distrowatch.com and exploring some other distro's, Mint, Fedora, Debian, PCLinuxOS, Open Suse, and CentOS are all in the top 10.

Completely agree with Masontx! I've experience problems with 11.04 and went back to 10.10 with no issues. Or, look at other distros.

Just because the latest release of whatever distro doesn't work for you is not a reason for ditching Linux for Windows!
Linux is about choice (which you don't have with Win), so you can choose to:
1. use an older version distro;
2. use a different window manager (kde, gnome, etc) for the distro;
3. try a different distro.
Most distros have a live version, so you can play around to find one you like before you installing it.

Thanks for the input. I did a little looking around, and I'm now using Fedora 15.
I like it so far......
