    ATI radeon not working properly

    I saw a similar thread which was solved but it is not working in my case. I am new to Linux.
    The thread that I looked at linux forums -158556

    The screen is all choppy with default installation.

    My system details
    Linux Dell-DXP051 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:24 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    lspci | grep VGA
    01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV370 5B60 [Radeon X300 (PCIE)]

    /etc/X11/xorg.conf does not exist

    I tried different things but I am stumped now

    @chrisjain45: Look for the Xorg-configuration in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/

    I had problems to adjust the display with the Ubuntu 10.04 system and Kernel 2.6.32. They were solved in 10.10. Now in Kubuntu 11.04, kernel 2.6.38, I cannot even start the X-server as the system freezes right before and will not even respond to the Magic SysKey -stuff.

    Have tried to update the ATI drivers but with not much success.
    For now, I stay with 2.6.32 again and live with a 1024x768 resolution on a 1366x768 screen.

    I am not a gamer and would condone returning to SIS, Cirrus- or Hercules-hardware if I could only have a proper resolution.

    No system-details, here. I am only vending my anger.

    Thank You.
