Ubuntu, Yahoo Messenger
Hello all,
One of the reasons I do not stop with Windows is the lack of, as far as I know, the possibility to communicate with Yahoo messenger in a proper way. American friends are using the software and I want to go on exchanging messages with them.
I know that a few chats-programs give the possibility to send and receive nessages but the support of using the webcam is not available. E.g. MSN and Licq are programs which offer alternatives for the Windows software.
Please, hel me to find a way to use Yahho Messenger in combination with the Ubuntu software.

Do they use Skype (and if not, why not)? Skype for Windows can communicate with Skype for Linux.
An alternative is to use on the the IM programs like Pidgin. Use Ubiqq.com, have a good-real-time | ˇFree & simple web videoconferencing! for the sound and video and send the unique URL by Pidgin.

Hi,
I am so sorry with the too late answer.
I tried a few messengers on Ubuntu in the meantime.
However the chat-function with the webcam included is not available both in Ubuntu as in Yahoo. (for Linux)
Thanks for the answer by the way.

I suggest you use pidgin. It's available in most linux distro packages.

At first thank you very much for the answers.
Of course I know the alternatives like you mentioned above.
There are even more of then.
However it is not possible to have the same activities like Yahoo, e.g. AMSN is a very good alternative for MSN,
But Yahoo is not usable for Ubuntu/-like users.
That is a pity because a few of my American mates are just using Windows.
Again thanks for the answers/

Pidgin works with Yahoo IM. Just select that type when you set up an account. Pidgin will work with almost any protocol.
