    Install Everything from beginning.

I have already tested Live CD customization on (K)Ubuntu 11.04 and have failed. As I wanted to remove applications and install a few but keep the image size exactly at 700MB or less than that so that i could make a LiveCD of it and use it as per need. But after successful removal and installation of applications I compiles it into a ISO image which was 722MB, way over the limit.
So I have decided to take up (K)Ubuntu or Ubuntu remove the all the applications including the GUI and installing everything from shell level. and just installing the application I need.
I really need to know how to do it. or is there any way to make the squashfs file system decrease in size

That doesn't sound like a failure. 722 vs 700 sounds like it just needs a little more trimming. If your target machines have a DVD that would be the way to go, or possibly making a USB boot drive with a 1 GB USB drive, that you could use to install to the machines.

Well first of all thanks for not calling it a failure.
Actually what I need is a LiveOS for a newbie learning C programming. He just needs an OS with a good typing interface and libraries for execution of the typed programs. But I want a bit more with it so I decided to put in a few more things. Listing them
    1. plasma desktop interface
    2. a typing interface preferabbly KATE
    3. a file browser like dolphin
    4. pppoe connection maker (network connection manager)
    5. an internet browser Firefox
    6. adobe flash plugin
    7. a pdf reader evince
    8. office suite Libre Office
    9. file archive handler File-roller
    10. handle of archieveing formats
      • rar
      • ace
      • 7zip
      • zip
      • and other linux based tar balls
    11. SpeedCrunch
    12. character map like Gucharmap
    13. an image viewer Eye of Gnome
    14. a terminal
    15. system settings

basically I want to work live. the person using it should be able to run basic C programs, connect to internet, do office works, handle zip files, and view images.

also want to make a few tweaks in the pannels like adding a show desktop icon change the pager settings and also the setting of the taskmanager along with including a few icons int the desktop.

I agree that Firefox and LibraOffice are the preferred aps, but Chrome and Abiword may get you down some more.

have you been using Synaptic to add and remove your packages? Use that to remove libre office and firefox from your kubuntu install, then use it to add your choice of smaller browser (chrome, dillo, etc) and abiword.
