Using an external monitor on 10.10
Hey everyone, for the past few weeks I have wanted to use my desktop monitor for my laptop as well. When I hook it up to my laptop via hdmi the laptop screen freezes and I have to restart my laptop. It never displays on my monitor. Any help is appreciated

Do you have another OS, like Windows? If so, does it work there?

On my laptop, Ubuntu 11.04 disables my FN (but not F1-12) keys. Can you start up Ubuntu with the external already connected? I can't see my external if it isn't already connected at boot. If you can see something, try a Recovery Mode boot (from the grub menu). If not, ????

My Thinkpad 60 (intel video card) works fine in with an external monitor, or projector. It runs Gentoo. My System76 Serval (derv7) with an NVIDA video card, works with a monitor and a projector, again it runs Gentoo.
Early in the Live of my Thinkpad r60 when running Fedora also worked as well.
