    CompizConfig settings manager not working.

A friend has Ubuntu 11.04 on an Opteron processor. He installed the CompizConfig utility, but when effects are enabled, they don't work.

Effects -> Animation (does not work)
Effects -> Blur Windows (does not work)

    Can anyone suggest a solution?

It's most likely down to his video drivers. Is he running an nVidia or ATI graphics chipset? If so he'll need to install the proprietary drivers that match his video card.

I was messing with compiz recently and nothing was working as well. I went to System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects and set it to custom then my compiz effects were working.

Dunno if it's the same problem as what you're having, but thought I'd toss that out there.
