    Internet Connection Problems

I installed a fresh version of Ubuntu 11 from disk to my old Dell Inspiron 9400 and was able to connect to the internet via a direct line but not via WiFi. I downloaded new drivers at a website which this forum won't let me post, deleted my old drivers, then installed the new ones. Now my laptop recognizes WiFi, but not direct line (I get the error "DNS lookup failed"). Can anyone help a noob out?

Okay, I can't connect with either direct line OR wireless, but at least now it recognizes wireless routers in the area. Could it be a missing driver or a connection setting?

Thanks Tbob, but it seems the problem with my wireless was that I had the wrong password. My wireless works fine now, and since I rarely connect with a wire I'm not too concerned with it. But it's my wired internet that doesn't work with the laptop now. I think it's something in the setup.
