Hello comrades,
I faced a challenge of installing Ubuntu 11.04 soon after its release. Thru google searches after other users had experienced a similar problem, i managed to overcome the problem thru trial and error. I now know better. The problem was that Ubuntu 11.04 hangs on my laptop before it shows the desktop.
Solutions;
Switch on your wireless card. This is evidenced by a white light.
Put your boot media i.e USB flash disk or CD
Boot the laptop
Depending on your make, you may have to change some boot options at the grub screen.
For most the following options do wonders, i.e
"text splash nomodeset vga=791" #This worked for hp netbook
or "text splash radeon.modeset=0" #This worked for hp G62
radeon.modeset option works for laptops having graphics cards from AMD radeon
The above steps worked well for my hp netbook and hp G62 laptop. The wireless cards must be switched on in both instances.
