    Error while installing

    Hi!

I've been running openSUSE for years and thought I'd give Ubuntu a go. Since I've used KDE environment I vent for KUbuntu. When I try to install I get this error message:
Unable to find a medium containing a live file system.
    Dist: Kubuntu 10.04 TLS
    Comp: envy 15-1195

Is there a quick fix to this, easy since I'm a comp noob. Hey that's why I turned to Linux back in the days. If a kubuntu install won't work on my comp, anyone with a suggested other distribution I should try..?

    Thanks in advance!

I did check the md5, it was fine and dandy. Also I burnt at 4x speed...

I had a word with a friend today, apparently he had turned from the dark side, Mac, to Linux. He said he had ubuntu 11 on his comp and was very happy with it. He gave it such a good word I just might try it on my comp.

Do you have another computer to verify that this particular CD boots?

I produced faulty CDs when I burned the CD on an older computer and the ISO image was on an USB stick. About four or five CDs were faulty and only one worked with this method. Simultaneously, I found that the burner in a Windows XP PC left the CD blank. The checksum of the ISO images was always OK.

Try installing from USB instead, much faster. Install it on USB using unetbootin, rarely have issues with that. Ubuntu 11.04 has pluses and minuses, I'm personally a fan of Gnome 3 but Unity isn't bad. From googling just a bit it seems like the most common problem is an issue with the hardware when this error comes up, second comes bad cd burn so I would definitely suggest trying a USB drive, 1 gig one works fine

Hardware and human factor, it was.

It seem this comp has three usb ports. Two is labelled with the normal usb symbol. One is labelled with the usb symbol and eSATA. I didn't registered this port as a usb at all, all labelling is underneath. I tried some dvds that came with the purchase and they installed ok, still only on the eSATA port. Wintendos to my sons liking, but I guess I can use this port to install a proper OS.

I'll report when I get time to reinstall the comp. The windows, win 7, isn't nearly as glitchy as windows usually is, but there are some annoying issues. (I like to change my desktop to my likings, in win 7 things starts to glitch...) I still think I'll use it until I get half a day off...
