    Fascinating but ANNOYING problem

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04.3.

I have a problem where a high-pitched noise is coming through my 5.1 speakers.

My hardware profile is set to "Analog Surround 5.1 Output + Analog Stereo Input".

The strange and fascinating part comes when I get a browser pop-up message "Do you really want to close this window" - the high pitched sound goes away for a moment, but then returns.

When I set my hardware profile "Analog Surround 5.0 Output + Analog Stereo Input", the high pitched sound goes away permanently... but I have 5.1 and not 5.0, and as you'd expect.. I want to set my profile to 5.1, so I am looking to resolve this issue.

I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card.

I have double checked audio cables. Everythings fine.

The issue doesn't exist in Windows.

First, try to be more specific in your titles, you'll get a lot more activity, I almost skipped over this one but I know the exact problem (and solution) so here it goes:

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lu...io/+bug/445849

    Solution:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:diwic/ppa
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
    Bodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17
