Sorry, Ubuntu does boot, i have a login screen but when I'm at my desktop the icons are a little messed up and if i click from the click back to the top left corner of the screen becomes black and a lot of other glitchy things, it's a 32bit HP Compaq with a Pentium 4 HT processor designed for Windows XP

    How old is the computer?
Could you post info on your video card?
How much RAM do you have?
    Are you using Ubuntu 11.04?

I'm using 11.04, the computer is a 2002 model, and I have 0.99 gigs of ram I didn't buy it from the store though so I don't know exactly how long it's been around

Go to system > administration > additional drivers, and see if additional drivers are available for your video card.

You should be able to click on system, then administration, then additional drivers (or something similar).
Do you see anything that reports needing additional drivers?

Jay, I still didn't find it but I do remember It saying it couldn't run Unity because of low hardware, I think that means I need to update my drivers?

Low hardware means you are at the minimum end of cpu/ram/gpu ability for Ubuntu 11.04. You might want to try 10.04, which is a long term support version and uses gnome 2 instead of 3, or lubuntu, which uses less resources than the gnome desktop. You could also go to distrowatch.com and do a search for older computers, and try a different distro altogether.
