    Exclamation I need help!!!

I have a desktop that I am trying to do a windows duel boot with ubuntu 11.4. I installed it and it said it was complete. I needed to do a reboot. When the grub came up I selected ubuntu and it looked like it was going to work. the screen turns white with black markings. I can press CTRL ALT F1 and i can tell that i am authenticating... I enter my username and password then it loads data below but i cant read it, and the cursor is at the bottom and ready for more input but i dont know what it wants. I think it wants my soul! I am pretty sure it is a graphics problem but I am about to rip my hair out. I have been trying to fix this for 8 hours. 3 fresh installs and not a difference. I can push e at the grub and change quiet splash to a 1 or single and same white affect on the screen but it looks different... assuming that it is just going to a different screen. if i enter nomodeset into quiet splash it starts loading drivers and running scripts and what not.. they all say done but nothing happens just a blinking cursor under it. Please help im desperate haha.

    Hello and Welcome!

As you say, probably a graphics card issue.
Boot up, hit CTRL ALT F1 and log in.
Once there, type the following command:
    Code:
    lspci -vnn | grep VGA
    Post back the exact output.

The command I mentioned won't work from the grub > prompt.

Do that... one of the commands you can do from there is lspci -vnn | grep VGA.
It will give about 2 or 3 lines of output.
    Post what it is.

I wont be able to post what it is. It is not appearing in any way to be read. It is an all white screen with a few characters in black that I can see. But nothing we can read.
