    kworker

I'm running Ubuntu 11.04. Over tha past several weeks I have begun seeing 'kworker' showing up when I list processes.

Can anyone offer a good explanation for what kworker is/does and how/when this process begain? I don't believe it was present when I first installed 11.04.

Here's an example from the last lines of a recent 'ps -ef' :

    root 5001 2 0 06:57 ? 00:00:00 [kworker/u:1]
    root 5061 2 0 07:10 ? 00:00:00 [kworker/0:2]
    1000 5112 1711 0 07:14 pts/2 00:00:00 bash
    root 5178 2 0 07:15 ? 00:00:00 [kworker/0:0]
    root 5179 2 0 07:15 ? 00:00:00 [kworker/u:0]
    root 5190 1 0 07:16 ? 00:00:00 dbus-launch --autolaunch=c933466
    root 5191 1 0 07:16 ? 00:00:00 //bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print
    root 5213 2720 0 07:19 pts/1 00:00:00 sudo ./jnos
    root 5215 5213 0 07:19 pts/1 00:00:00 ./jnos
    root 5271 2 0 07:20 ? 00:00:00 [kworker/0:1]
    1000 5274 5112 0 07:21 pts/2 00:00:00 ps -ef

    Thanks for the help.

I found this thread on Ubuntu Forums: [ubuntu] What is kworker? - Ubuntu Forums
I haven't read through the whole thing, yet. But it seems to give at least some information regarding kworker.

BTW... here are the Google results. Quite a bit to be found there.
