Errno 5: input/output error. Installation failed.

    Hello there,

I have lost 1 whole day trying to install ubuntu. I am doing it from a CD, and every time I get Errno 5: input/output error. It says that usually there is an issue with my hdd, disc, disc drive.

I tried changing all of these, disconnecting all USB units and removing all RAM but 1 unit (as suggested when searching google)

I have ran out of ideas and need help.

    Thanks,
    Marius

Are you using the most recent version of Ubuntu, 11.04?
Did you download it from the internet? What site, Ubuntu?
Did you verify the download with the md5 checksum
Did you burn the iso images as an image? at a low speed?
Do you have any operating system at present? If so, what is it?
Do other CDs work in the computer?

have u tried the alternate install? sometimes this helps. I usually get my Distros from distrowatch and have had good luck but getting ubuntu straight from the source, meaning ubuntu.com, is great to.

    - I downloaded ubuntu 11.04.
    - md5 checksum is correct
    - I got it from the ubuntu website.
    - I have burnt it at high speed and low speed. With the same result.
    - At present I am writing to you using windows vista x64.
    - Other CDs work on the computer, just fine.

    Kind regards,
    Marius

I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm posting a link below to a forum with a number of possible solutions. Some of them you've already tried. I don't know if using the alternate install would help. Might be worth a try. Sometimes it is the CD itself and using a CD from a different manufacturer may help?

The only link I found which was marked Solved was someone who installed Opensuse instead so...??

    Good Luck!
