    Ubuntu locks up after 5 minutes

    Hello,
    I just installed Ubuntu alongside a previous Windows installation using the utility provided on the Ubuntu site. After booting Ubuntu, I can only use it for about 5 minutes before the system seems to go to sleep (monitors go blank) and becomes totally unresponsive. This is not 5 minutes of idle time but 5 minutes of actually using the computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi and Welcome !

    We need info about your machine's Hardware. How much RAM and which Graphics Card do you have?
    Boot up Ubuntu and execute this in Terminal :
    Code:
    lspci | grep -i vga
    free
    Post output here.

    Thanks for the reply, but I think I got it figured out. I installed new drivers for my video card and it seems to be running smoothly now.

    I am glad you have sorted out problem. Graphics Card driver causes Lock/Freeze problems most of the time. Make sure to check Additional Drivers in Administrative Menu.

    Hello... In the same vein, can anybody tell me how to change or prevent the same sleep syndrome after a few minutes of non-use ? It's ok if I keep working.
    Thanks in advance...

    @Groware

    Have you looked in your Power Management menu?
