Realtek RTL8188CE Driver & Build-Essential Install without Internet
I've been passively trying to fix this issue for months, never really giving it much of my time. I purchased a Toshiba L755 laptop which uses the RealTek RTL8188CE wireless adapter. I've currently gotten Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit and a Win7 Dual boot. I cannot for the life if me get either the wireless or the wired internet to work in the Ubuntu side. (Wired internet adapter: Atheros AR8152/8158 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller).
Now I did try the information posted on the web about downloading the provided drivers for Linux and uncompressing them and using 'sudo su', etc. But the problem I've encountered is getting build-essential installed onto my laptop without internet.
If anyone could please provide me with an idea of how to do this. (I did try a cd-rom version, but perhaps I went about it wrong.) Don't be afraid to talk n00b to me, because this issue has had me completely stumped for weeks.
Thanks in advance

Solved (Kind of)
First I downloaded the device drivers from the RealTek website into my Windows7 side. Booted into Ubuntu and then opened up my C drive and copied over the drivers. Unzipped the files.
cd (file location)
sudo su
make
make install
exit
Now the only problem I encountered after getting onto the internet and doing all my upgrades was that it updated the kernel which took away my internet again and wouldn't let me back on. I just booted from the older kernel which had working wireless internet and then installed Mint. Which already had the driver support.

Sorry no one was able to help you here and congrats on getting the job done yourself. After a kernel update you are going to have to recompile those drivers exactly like you did the first time but this time you need to boot the newer kernel first and then compile the drivers.

I have a Toshiba L770, ubuntu/win7 had the same problem. The newest kernel 2.6.38.11 (as of today) has better support for rtl8188ce so there maybe a conflict with the driver from reatek. You may need to remove the driver from realtek. So far the new kernel update is working fine.
