Intalling from flash drive
Hi guys.
I'm new to this and I'm having issues installing Ubuntu.
I just got a new laptop and I'm trying to replace windows 7 with Ubuntu 11.04 from a flash drive. I created the flash drive with LiLi USB creator.
My issue is when I boot my laptop from the drive, it goes to a black screen, flashes some message about checking my connection cable real quick, and then goes straight to windows and boots normally.
I can run Ubuntu in a window after that, but I can't seem to figure out how to replace windows with it. Any advice?
Thanks!

Did you read the documentation and follow the steps for creation of Lili usb creator?

It doesn't sound as is your flash drive is booting. If you have it set to first boot priority in the BIOS, then something probably went wrong with creating the Ubuntu on the flash. It should not boot to windows.
That sounds like a wubi install of Ubuntu which is installing Ubuntu inside windows. How do you access Ubuntu after booting into windows?I can run Ubuntu in a window after that, but I can't seem to figure out how to replace windows with it. Any advice?

I think you're right about the flash drive not booting. I removed my flashdrive and restarted with the flashdrive still set as the default boot drive in the BIOS, and it did the exact same thing before booting windows. I've tried creating the bootable drive a couple times and nothing's changed. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong with creating the bootable drive.
You're also right about the wubi thing. it's just an executable on the drive. I only tried that once, I figured that wasn't what I was looking for?

If you are able to use windows 7 on your computer, you should be able to boot from a flash drive. Which manufacturer? HP? Dell? Compaq? something else? There are different ways to set boot priority.
Wubi would not be what you want if you want to replace windows as your Ubuntu install with wubi is inside the windows partition.
If you've tried it several times and can't get it to work, you might try downloading and using unetbootin. The link below takes you to the home page which has instructions and you can do it from windows.

I did some more poking around on the internet and found other people had the same issue. The problem has something to do with 11.04. I installed 10.x and it's humming along just fine. Thanks for your help though!

Is there any reason why u can't install off the ubuntu cd? U can just download the ISO from Homepage | Ubuntu or distrowatch.com and burn the ISO to your cd. Make sure u alect burn from ISO when u burn it.
