Cannot access a directory when I have permission to do so.

    I chmoded /var/www to 770.
    I set /var/www group to www-data.
I added myself to the www-data group.
    I cannot access /var/www.

    Why?

Is this on a localhost machine? LAN? ??
Is this a new installation of LAMP?
I expect you mean you cannot access your files through a browser?

for that particular directory you need to do more than just have permissions, you have to be part of certain groups as well. Check out this thread:

    Bodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17
