Well the problem is that there are many different possibilities to get that incompatibility ...
One is to use active-x objects.

Well anyway sorry I can't help you, best way to deal with this would be to change the page scripts.

I think he is trying to access a site that uses activex, not his own website. You will probably have to use internet explorer through wine, which i have had bad luck with. try it out and post back.

I haven't used IE in about 6 years. I use firefox and have never run into a site that won't display. My browsing needs are confined to computer parts sites, ebay, this forum, yahoo mail, etc., so may not have come across the issue.

As far as I know, if a site actually requires IE to view it properly, then there's not really a way around it.
Sites like that recognize the browser being used, and render them accordingly.

hatebreed has the right idea for that, in using IE via wine.

i have run into a site or two that wouldn't work properly because of the .asp, I believe that is the extension, that microsoft uses. It wouldn't render all the portions of the site correctly, so you couldn't use the site.

It does depend on how desperate you are to get access to those sites - I think you have a number of options, of which Wine is probably the one you go for first. You could also try the virtual machine route, setting up a Windows XP VM on your laptop. You could also get hold of a cheap second hand computer/laptop/netbook or whatever that'll do the job.
