Question Xfdesktop crashes on login in Xubuntu 11.10

I realize Xubuntu 11.10 is still in beta, but I have had this problem for about a month and have found little info on it.

The problem: When logging in, the desktop wallpaper and icons show up for a fraction of a second, then both disappear and I am left with either a blue or black screen (usually blue).

I have asked around on the Xubuntu IRC, but they essentially told me to go pound sand because I enabled the root account, and told me to reinstall and only use sudo. I realize it's against the Ubuntu security model to enable the root account, but refusing to help a user because they do something "unsupported" on Linux? Doesn't quite seem to follow the spirit of the Linux community...

Anyways, if someone could help me out, I'd appreciate it!

    EDIT: More Info

Xfdesktop is running, but is not working properly. If I kill it, then start it again, it works fine. Perhaps something goes on in the login after it starts that it doesn't like very much?

    EDIT: Fixed

I went into Settings > Settings Manager > Session and Startup > Session, and quit xfdesktop.

Next, I did "xfdesktop & exit" in a terminal.
(The "exit" is so that xfdesktop runs without a terminal, so that the terminal doesn't get saved when I save the session later.)

Went back into Session and Startup > Session and set xfdesktop's restart style to "If running".

Finally, I restarted and everything worked fine. May I add, it also had nothing to do with enabling the root account...
