updating 10.04
Hello All
I wanted to ask if anyone knows the command for limiting the updates to the software that is installed? I understand that it will update all software even if it's not installed.
Thank you in advance for you help.

If you don't want certain software updated that is already installed you can go into synaptic, find the software and select
lock version from the package button.
Software not installed will have the updated versions in the repos.
To get an older version would require finding an archive of the repo or check the software's web page.
Alternatively, you could just turn off automatic updates by disabling the repos in your list. But this isn't
recommended as you may open yourself up to security issues.

What Taz says is true, but also, the system will ONLY update installed packages, although if a new package version requires another package that is not installed already, it will be installed automatically in order to satisfy the original package's dependencies.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!
