    Resizing Ubuntu space

    Hi,

I installed Ubuntu 10 without partitioning on WinXP. I allocated a certain space for it. Now I would like to increase that space: basically, reduce the XP allocated space and increase Ubuntu’s space.

    How do I do that?

    Thanks,
    S.

Hi. That sounds like a wubi installation. Did you install by running "wubi.exe" in Windows? If you did, have a look at the Ubuntu wiki Wubi guide. I can't post a direct link because I do not have enough posts yet, but if you google <ubuntu wiki wubi guide> it should be the first hit. Look in contents for Misc > 9. How do I resize the virtual disks?. That contains a link to a howto for increasing the size of the wubi virtual disk and a script for doing the same.

If you don't have a wubi installation, open a terminal and post the output of:

    Code:
    sudo fdisk -lu
... and we can see what would be needed.

By the way, it makes little difference but by "Ubuntu 10" do you mean 10.04 (Lucid) or 10.10 (Maverick)?

Resize partitions? Take a look at gparted. Bootable disk, should be able to resize your partitions for you.
