    updating bios

    Ok i have an hp pavilion 742n and i am trying to update the bios because my bios does not have the option to boot from dvd. From what I understand most of the time they only have a windows version of the update software. So i dont even know where to start. I assume i need to run the software through wine but i dont even have a link to the bios update i need. So can somebody walk me through everything i need and need to know thanks a bunch! oh i am running ubuntu 11.04

    Check the following Arch wiki article for some alternatives to using Windows for flashing your BIOS:

    I'm thinking one of the FreeDOS options (toward the bottom of the article) will probably work best for you. Of course, these are written for Arch, so you will have to make any changes needed for Ubuntu. In addition, the Ubuntu folks might have posted the same thing in some of their website HowTos for Ubuntu users.
