Connection problems
Hello all,
This is my first post here and im hoping that someone can help me out. Im pretty new to linux systems but id like to get better with them. On my Dell Inspiron laptop i cannot connect to the internet. When i first installed Ubuntu the internet c;onenctred fine, then one day it just stopped. Under the wireless settigns it says Firmware Missing, and when i try to get a wired connection it wotn work either! however when i run windows 7 the internet has no problems at all. What should i do!? Thanks in advance!

Hi there.
For that card, try the following:
I'm not familiar with the Unity layout, so you'll need to poke around. But go to your System > Administration > Hardware/Additional Drivers menus.Code:sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
You should see the STA drivers available. Select them, and reboot.Jay

Are you able to get a physical connection for this?
If not, see this page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...nternet_access
I've not had to install software offline in Ubuntu, so I'll be of limited help on this one.Jay

Yeah I looked at that earlier but i cant seem to locate the dkms directory at all
- 12-06-2011 #9
Is there a directory in there along the lines of /pool/main/d/ anywhere?
The dkms might be the files needed to install.
Like I said, I've not had to do this... so I'm feeling around here.
