    You could try youtube-dl to see if it suits your needs, and you should be able to install it with Synaptic if it's found in one of the repositories listed in your sources.list file:

    youtube-dl | Linux App Finder

    youtube-dl is what I use. Also, you can use mplayer to watch the flv videos directly in terminal.

    Finally, you can use FFmpeg to convert the .flv's into mp3s, mp4s, and I believe AVI.

    firefox has a bunch of extensions that can download .flv files. if you go under tools-add ons-extensions, you should find some.
