Hi Having driver issues, please can you help?

Please forgive me I'm new to Linux I have recently installed Ubuntu version 11.10. The system I am using is an Asus X5EA. I seem to have issues with sound, web cam and optical drive.

    Sound:
When headphones are inserted the system mutes the sound and when I increase the volume the sound will play through both the headphones and the speakers.

    Web Cam:
The web cam works but inverts the image.

    The optical drive:
Cannot play DVDs (VLC media player) and gives the following error:
    code File reading failed:
VLC could not read the file.

Any help on these little niggles would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
    Alan

    Sound:
You need to open the sound preferences tool (right click on speaker icon in menu dock), and set the output to the appropriate device instead of both.

    Web Cam:
What are you using for output of the webcam images?

    DVD playback:
You need to install the libdvdcss packag(s) in order to play commercial DVDs. They use the CSS (Content Scramble System) DRM to "protect" the discs from copying, or playing back on "unauthorized" devices.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!
