Lubuntu virtual machine needs kernel headers

Hi, I'm trying to set up a Lubuntu virtual machine in VMware on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (AMD FX8120).

To install VMware tools, it needs kernel headers installed. I tried "sudo apt-get install kernel-headers kernel-devel" but it returns errors saying there are no such packages. (I borrowed the package names from a fedora 16 help page)

I tried searching the synaptic package manager but am unsure of the correct packages to install.

Guidance on the correct pakages will be greatly appreciated.

Ubuntu and Debian based distributions in general have package names that are somewhat different from those in Red Hat distributions. Use Synaptic and do a search for kernel* package names. You'll find them.

Hi and thanks for the quick reply. I tried a search in Synaptic as suggested but get zero results when including the "*". It appears that it is not recognised as a wildcard but a discrete character.

I also tried using single and double quotes around kernel and various options for wild cards such as ? and ?? but they all returned zero results.
