    No notification sounds in empathy

I'm having a bit of an annoying problem with empathy. I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 with gnome shell, and I'm getting no sounds when messages come in. I've been living with this problem for months, and every once in a while i get annoyed and go on a kick trying to fix it and come up empty handed.

So far i've made sure all the notifications i want sounds for are checked of in empathy preferences. I've installed dconf and made sure everything in org/gnome/empathy look ok. As per another forum i checked org/gnome/desktop/sound and made sure "event sounds" was checked off.

Beyond this i don't know. All my other sound works fine, so I'm assuming it's an interface problem. Its really annoying be cause I have to keep checking there to see if any messages have come in. And if I don't notice any the bar flicker in a while sometimes I check and I've got like 12 new messages. I run dual monitors so lots of times I'm reading things off the left monitor and don't see the messages come in on the right one.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer. Hopefully i'm just missing something.

Try using Pidgin Messenger and see if the same problem crops up there as well.

Yeah i get the sounds with Pidgin, but it doesn't integrate with Gnome shell. And empathy integrates, but doesn't give sounds hehe. I found this bug, but it's and old one and I'm assuming it's no longer the issue? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...hy/+bug/400485
