Help ! How do you remove avm.exe error ?

    Hi guys.

Opened this up in a new thread as I think it is the reason for wine 1.2 not working properly.

Have done some googling and it seems like this avm.exe file is a virus and so everytime I try to run a windows program a pop up window shows and says the avm.exe the program needs to close.

I went to C/output virtual drive and found the avm.exe file, deleted it and thought the windows stuff should be ok.

Well, I clicked on the app and instead of loading it , it said in a little box there seems to be a prob, please download the latest software.

That was the latest software so how do I fix this ?

    Running kubuntu hardy 8.04.

    Please help . Thanks.

    1. Backup necessary data files and run a virus scanner on them to make sure they aren't infected.
    2. Remove Wine using apt-get.
    3. Reinstall Wine using apt-get.
    4. Reinstall your software.

Anyway, your application probably got infected as well, or some of the system DLL's got corrupted. Myself, I run anything other than simple Windows tools in a Windows virtual machine on Linux, such as VirtualBox, which allows me to make regular snapshots. That way, if I get some virus, it is a simple matter of reverting to the most recent snapshot, and the virus is gone! DO NOT run Internet Explorer on Wine, or you will get infected if you visit a site with a drive-by virus. I've had my Windows VM infected in the past, and the revert-to-snapshot method works a treat! No scanning/disinfecting is necessary.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

Thanks for the advice. Got the app to work , can not see what i am editing as the video part doesn`t work. Virtual machine sounded good until I found out you had to install wthe OS on your OS - obvious now .

    Thanks anyway.
