    Question Low download speed

Hi, I've installed Ubuntu 11.10 And there is a problem. My Internet connection is not very fast, It's only 4Mbps, but the thing is, on Ubuntu speed decrease to 1Mbps, When I reconnect to my wi-fi it's 4Mbps again, but after sometime it decreases again to 1Mbps. On windows there isn't such a problem, so it's not my laptop's hardware. Can anyone tell what is going on, and what should I do to fix this problem?
    Thanks for the answers

As my network hardware really doesn't handle it well, the first thing I would do in this case is disable IPV6. Open your network manager and select your connection and click edit. Navigate to the IPV6 tab and make sure it is set to "Ignore". This normally sorts out all my speed issues on wired and wireless connections.

Thank you for an advice, but still, it has no effect. The interesting thing is,that Internet speed through enthernet cable is good, and via wi-fi there is this issue. On previous ubuntu versions such like 9.04 it was good, ant it is good to on window platform, too. Any Ideas?

Have a look at the Additional drivers application to see if you need to install extra drivers for your wifi. If you do, it should be as simple as clicking a button.

Don't think that I'm such a newbie, that i wouldn't thought about installing additional drivers. The needed drivers had been installed before this thread appeared . And without drivers it's the same.

Does always slow down, for all types of connections, or just certain types? I assume this is your Internet connection speed, not the speed between computers on your LAN. What about speed between different computers on your LAN (assuming you have more than one)?
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

It's better to cover all the bases

I did once have intermittent slow downloads when I assigned my laptop the same IP address as my phone. Given that it isn't that either, if you can provide the information requested in this thread that will be a great help.

On my laptop speed decreases in no matter what I am doing. But just via wi-fi. I don't have another computer, but I have a smartphone, on smartphone when i run speed test there is no problem about speed, it's the same as it should be.

Can you also post the output of
    Code:
    rfkill list all
. We can then see if you are getting blocked.

I'm asking because of this bit of your dmesg

    Code:
